Notes on Leadership: Giving and Accepting Feedback as The Journey to be Authentic Leader
Be Open
Explore your blind spot
and asking for feedback . . .
Based on Harvard Business Review entitled "Discovering Your Authentic Leadership" by Bill George and his friends, one of the requirements that needed to be an authentic leader is the ability to aware yourself include your strength and weakness. There are many reasons why everyone needs the feedback. Let's learn The Johari Window Models:
Based on Johari Window Model we know that the square is divided into four area, they are:
1. open area or arena is an area that known by yourself and others. It can be your strengths or personal weakness.
2. Hidden area is an area that known by yourself but other people don't know it from you.
3. Blind spot is an area that known by others but even yourself don't know it exists within you.
4. unknown is an area that describes an unknown situation because both you and others don't know it from you.
Then, let's correlate with our topic above. Maybe, now in your head still resonant the question of why authentic leaders should learn from feedback? Because authentic leaders need a lot of personal improvement based on the feedback that they got. By accepting feedback well, we can explore our blind spot, find and fix what become our problems, and transform it into our strength. I believe, two top skills that every leader should learn is reading and listening. Reading can be meant the ability to analyze problems and people needs. While listening can be meant our skill to listen to others ideas, heart, and absolutely feedback.
When someone gives you a feedback, don't ignore it while it's good for you and your future. Be grateful, analyze your blind spot, and still learn in joyful. So, don't worry for giving and accepting feedback wisely! ^^
